Sofronio P. Vasquez III, 32, of Ozamiz, Misamis Occidental, Philippines and Utica, New York, United States won the 26th season of “The Voice USA“.
Including Vasquez, a total of 56 artists competed in the show. Born in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, Michael Bublé, 49, served as the winner’s coach.
In 2014, Vazquez auditioned at “The Voice of the Philippines” Season 2 but failed to convince a judge to turn around for him. The judges were apl.de.ap, Bamboo Mañalac, Lea Salonga and Sarah Geronimo.
The rejection did not stop Vazquez from competing in singing contests. He competed in “Tawag ng Tanghalan“, a singing competition of the Filipino television show “It’s Showtime“, twice before joining “The Voice USA” Season 26.
Born and raised in Misamis Occidental, Vasquez earned his doctorate degree in dentistry from Misamis University in Ozamiz. In 2022, he moved to Utica to pursue dentistry.
‘Tawag ng Tanghalan‘
On November 18, 2017, Vasquez became a “Tawag ng Tanghalan” Season 2 semifinalist. On May 28, 2018, he made it to the Top 10.
On June 1, 2018, Vasquez was eliminated, making him the seventh placer. On June 2, 2018, Janine Berdin was declared the grand winner.
Runner-up to Berdin was Ato Arman. The respective third, fourth, fifth and sixth placers were Steven Paysu, Anton Antenorcruz, Arabelle de la Cruz and Reggie Tortugo.
Including Vazquez, 48 former “Tawag ng Tanghalan” contestants competed in “Tawag ng Tanghalan: All-Star Grand Resbak“, which aired on ABS-CBN from November 11, 2019 to December 21, 2019. Mark Michael Garcia was the grand winner.
Runner-up to Garcia was Jex de Castro. Vasquez finished third while Julius Cawaling and Charizze Arnigo were the respective fourth and fifth placers.
‘The Voice USA‘
Hosted by Carson Daly, “The Voice USA” Season 26 had 22 episodes, which were aired on NBC from September 23, 2024 to December 10, 2024. Bublé’s fellow coaches were Gwen Stefani, Reba McEntire and Snoop Dogg.
Before the season premiere, Vasquez’s blind audition performing the Mary J. Blige song “I’m Goin’ Down” was released online. All the four judges turned around for the Filipino singer, who ultimately chose Bublé as his coach.
Runner-up to Vasquez was Shye, who was also mentored by Bublé. In third place was Sydney Sterlace, who was mentored by Stefani.
McEntire mentored fourth placer Danny Joseph. Dogg mentored fifth placer Jeremy Beloate.
