Singapore’s Christian Lee: Philippines’ Edward Kelly is a good fighter

Christian “The Warrior” Lee, 20, of Singapore fell short in his first bid to capture a world championship in mixed martial arts on May 18, 2018. He will return to the cage to take on Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly, 34, of the Philippines at “ONE: Beyond the Horizon” at the Baoshan Arena in Shanghai, China in the featherweight division on September 8, 2018.

“I think that Edward Kelly is a good fighter and a great guy,” Lee shared. “I have been following his career in ONE and I think we will put up an exciting fight for the fans.”

Kelly will be Lee’s third Filipino opponent. The Singaporean contender said, “With all due respect to Edward, I feel that I am deeper in every area of the game.”

“ONE: Beyond the Horizon” marks Kelly’s 11th ONE Championship bout. The Filipino fighter is representing Team Lakay of Baguio City while Lee is fighting out of Evolve MMA.

As a professional MMA fighter, Lee has competed in 11 bouts, all of which were in the ONE Championship cage. “ONE: Beyond the Horizon” is his chance to get back on track after suffering just his second career defeat when he failed to dethrone reigning two-division world champion Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen, 29, of Australia and Vietnam for the ONE Featherweight World Championship.

Like Lee, Kelly is also coming out of a loss. In the Team Lakay fighter’s most recent bout, he was knocked out by former ONE Featherweight World Champion Narantungalag “Tungaa” Jadambaa, 42, of Mongolia.

The Evolve MMA fighter believes that he and Kelly will be putting on an exciting show for the passionate fans in Shanghai at “ONE: Beyond the Horizon.” Both fighters have a knack for finishing their opponents, combining 17 wins via stoppage between the two outstanding featherweight competitors.
