Philippines’ Kevin Belingon to fight Martin Nguyen before rematch with Bibiano Fernandes

Having shown impressive victories bout after about, Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon, 30, of Team Lakay from Baguio City, Philippines has become one of the most exciting fighters in the ONE Championship cage. In the past few years, there has been a clamor from the fight fans for the Filipino fighter to fight for the ONE Bantamweight World Championship again.

Kevin Belingon vs Bibiano Fernandes

On January 23, 2016, Belingon challenged reigning ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes, 38, of Brazil at “ONE: Dynasty of Champions.” The Brazilian champion maintained his title by submitting his Filipino challenger via kimura.

Before the highly anticipated with Fernandes, Belingon has to compete for the ONE Interim Bantamweight World Championship against reigning ONE Featherweight and Lightweight World Champion and Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen, 29, of Australia and Vietnam. Nguyen also tried to dethrone Fernandes at “ONE: Iron Will” on March 24, 2018 but lost via split decision.

“As one of the top bantamweights in ONE Championship, I am willing to take on all comers,” Belingon stated. “It doesn’t matter to me who the opponent is. In fact, I am honored to face Martin Nguyen, a two-division world champion.”

Kevin Belingon vs Martin Nguyen

On July 27, 2018, Belingon and Nguyen will headline “ONE: Reign of Kings” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. The winner is expected to fight Fernandes for a title unification bout at the same venue before 2019.

“If I can beat Martin, it would be huge,” Belingon said. “This is a great position I am in and I am excited for this bout. It will be action-packed, for sure.”

Belingon is one of the most talented Filipino martial artists today. With a professional record of 18 wins and 5 losses, the Team Lakay fighter is known as a fierce competitor with the ability to finish opponents in a variety of methods.

A Filipino Wushu champion with 8 huge knockouts on his resume, Belingon is one of the most feared strikers in ONE Championship’s deep bantamweight division. In his last bout, he overwhelmed former world title challenger Andrew Leone, 28, of the United States to win by scintillating second-round knockout.

“With reigning bantamweight king Bibiano Fernandes not available until later this year due to injury, Kevin Belingon and Martin Nguyen will square off for the ONE Interim Bantamweight World Championship,” ONE Championship chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong stated. “It’s a great match-up between two heavy-handed power punchers and one that will surely leave fans at the edge of their seats. Don’t miss ‘ONE: Reign of Kings’ when it hits Manila this July.”

If Nguyen wins at “ONE: Reign of Kings,” he will become the first ONE Championship fighter with three titles at the same time. He has been the reigning ONE Featherweight and Lightweight World Champion since November 10, 2017.
