Abbigail “Abby” Sturgin, 28, of Auckland, New Zealand is a Laotian-Kiwi frontline police officer and beauty queen. She represented New Zealand in the 17th edition of Miss Earth and will represent the country in the 74th edition of Miss Universe.
Sturgin studied accounting and management at the Auckland University of Technology in Auckland. She was 18 years old when she competed in a beauty pageant for the first time.
On June 4, 2016, Sturgin competed against 13 other Miss World New Zealand 2016 candidates at the SkyCity Convention Centre in Auckland. She finished in the Top 6.
On May 23, 2025, Sturgin turned 28. She is 5’51⁄2” tall.
Miss Earth 2017
On May 27, 2017, Sturgin competed against seven other Miss Earth New Zealand 2017 candidates at the Waipuna Hotel and Conference Centre in Mount Wellington, Auckland. She won the title.
Also crowned were Miss Air New Zealand 2017 Zoom Fitton, Miss Water New Zealand 2017 Nicole Gomes and Miss Fire New Zealand 2017 Ayu Candradewi. The other candidates were Isabella Young, Jaimee Olivia Wiggins, Louise Dunn and Zhane Seymour.
On November 4, 2017, Sturgin represented New Zealand at Miss Earth 2017 and competed against 84 other candidates at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Metro Manila, Philippines. She was unplaced.
Miss Universe 2025
On June 24, 2025, Sturgin competed against 12 other Miss Universe New Zealand 2025 candidates at the SkyCity Theatre in Auckland. She won the title.
Runner-up to Sturgin was Hannah Cross. The respective second, third and fourth runners-up were Noor Randhawa, Gazelle Garcia and Deborah Lambie.
Sturgin was crowned by Victoria Velasquez Vincent. On November 16, 2024, the latter represented New Zealand at Miss Universe 2024 at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico.
On November 21, 2025, Sturgin will represent New Zealand at Miss Universe 2025. She will compete against 128 other candidates at the Impact Challenger Hall in Pak Kret, Nonthaburi, Thailand.
This makes Sturgin the first Miss Universe 2025 candidate from Oceania. Among her fellow candidates are Xuhe Hou, 22, of China, Dana Almassova, 20, of Kazakhstan, Mary Kuvakova, 19, of Kyrgyzstan and Ahtisa Manalo, 28, of the Philippines.
