Located in Tallahassee, Leon County, Florida, United States, Florida State University is home to the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, the only national laboratory in Florida. The university’s intercollegiate sports teams are known by their nickname Florida State Seminoles.
F.C. Rabbath‘s 2020 film “The Waiting” and Scott Tepperman‘s 2021 film “Cruel Summer” were shot in Tallahassee. The music video of Kinsley Treadwell‘s 2024 song “7 Days” was also filmed in the capital city of Florida.
Burt Reynolds
Born in Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan, USA, Burt Reynolds moved to Riviera Beach, Palm Beach County, Florida with his sister and their parents in 1946. After graduating from Palm Beach High School in West Palm Beach, Palm Beach County, he attended Florida State University on a football scholarship and started playing halfback in 1954.
In 1956, Reynolds transferred to Palm Beach Junior College in Lake Park, Palm Beach County but in 1957, he went back to Florida State University and rejoined the university’s football team. From 1982 to 1986, he was a minority owner of the Tampa Bay Bandits of the U.S. Football League.
For Reynolds’ role as Jack Horner in the 1997 film “Boogie Nights”, he was nominated Best Supporting Actor in the Academy Awards. His last television role was Ron Wilcox in the 2016 series “Hitting the Breaks”.
On February 11, 2018, Reynolds turned 82. On September 6, 2018, he died in Jupiter, Palm Beach County.
Dr. Myron May
Dr. Myron De’Shawn May spent his childhood in Dayton, Ohio, USA. He was a teenager when he moved to Florida.
In December 2005, May graduated with honors from Florida State University with a bachelor’s degree in economics. From July 2006 to May 2009, he attended the Texas Tech University School of Law in Lubbock, Texas, USA.
May practiced law in New Mexico, USA and Texas. From June 2012 to May 2013, he worked in the Kennard Law Firm, which was founded by Alfonso Kennard, and from January 2014 to October 2014, he was a prosecutor for the Doña Ana County, New Mexico district attorney’s office.
On March 21, 2014, May turned 31. On November 20, 2014, he opened fire at the Stozier Library of Florida State University and was fatally shot by police officers after he refused to drop his weapon.
Phoenix Ikner
Born Christian Gunnar Eriksen, Phoenix Ikner is American-Norwegian. He is the son of Christopher Jason “Chris” Ikner and Anne-Mari Eriksen and the stepson of Jessica Ikner, who has been a Leon County Sheriff’s Office deputy since 2006.
From 2007 to 2023, Anne-Mari was in custody disputes with Chris. In 2010, he married Jessica.
In 2018, Phoenix graduated from Swift Creek Middle School and he entered Lincoln High School, which are both in Tallahassee. In 2020, he legally changed his name.
On August 18, 2024, Phoenix turned 20. On April 17, 2025, he allegedly used one of Jessica’s former service pistols to open fire on the main campus of Florida State University, killing two people and injuring five others.
