2025 Players Championship
John Michael “J.J.” Spaun Jr., 34, of Scottsdale, Arizona, United States almost won the 2025 Players Championship. It was officially the 51st edition of the golf tournament but the 48th edition as a standalone tournament.
The 2025 Players Championship was held at the TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, USA from March 13-17, 2025. The champion was Rory McIlroy, 35, of Holywood, Northern Ireland.
Runner-up to McIlroy was Spaun. After a tie between the two during the final round on March 16, 2025, a three-hole aggregate playoff took place on March 17, 2025, which was won by the Northern Irish golfer currently based in Jupiter, Florida.
Akshay Bhatia, Lucas Glover and Tom Hoge tied for third while Bud Cauley, Corey Conners and Danny Walker tied for sixth. Robert MacIntyre finished ninth and Collin Morikawa and Davis Thompson tied for 10th.
J.J. Spaun
Spaun was born in Los Angeles, California, USA to his American father John Michael Spaun Sr. and his Filipino-Mexican mother Dollie Spaun. Dollie’s paternal grandparents moved from Victoria, Tarlac, Philippines to California.
In 2008, J.J. graduated from San Dimas High School in San Dimas, California. He studied social science and played collegiate golf at San Diego State University in San Diego, California.
In 2018, J.J. was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. In 2019, he married Melody Means and in 2020, she gave birth to their first child.
In 2021, J.J. found out that he had type 1 diabetes and not type 2 diabetes. In 2023, Means gave birth to their second child.
On August 21, 2024, J.J. turned 34. He is 5’8″ tall and his registered weight is 185 pounds.
