Holly, Michigan’s Joseph Strange accused of selling unreleased Eminem music

Joseph Strange, 46, of Holly, Michigan, United States is a former employee of Marshall Bruce Mathers III, 52. Professionally known as Eminem, the latter was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, USA and raised in Detroit, Michigan.

Between 1996 and 2024, Eminem released 12 studio albums. From 2007 to 2021, Strange worked for the rapper as a studio engineer.

As part of Strange’s severance package, he signed an agreement that specifically prohibited him from electronically circulating Eminem’s work. On July 12, 2024, Aftermath Entertainment, Interscope Records and Shady Records released the rapper’s 12th studio album “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)”, which has 19 songs including “Bad One” with White Gold and “Guilty Conscience 2”.

Months later, employees of Eminem’s music studio in Ferndale, Michigan who found unreleased music created by the rapper that was available on the internet. He was still in the process of developing this music.

In October 2019 and January 2020, files were transferred from a hard drive in a safe to an external hard drive in the studio. Strange was a sound engineer at the studio during this period.

On January 16, 2025, the employees contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation and reported the theft. FBI agents contacted several individuals who bought the unreleased music.

According to the individuals, they bought the music from Strange. One of the buyers, a resident of Canada, revealed that the Holly man was also trying to sell some of Eminem’s handwritten lyric sheets.

When FBI agents searched Strange’s residence in Holly, they found numerous lyric sheets and notes handwritten by Eminem, hard drives with 12,000 audio files and a VHS tape of an unreleased video featuring the rapper.

He was charged with criminal infringement of a copyright and interstate transportation of stolen goods, federal prosecutors announced in March 19, 2025.
