Alicante, Spain’s Ilia Topuria knocks out Max Holloway at ‘UFC 308’ in Abu Dhabi, UAE

“El Matador” Ilia Topuria, 27, of Alicante, Valencia, Spain is still the featherweight champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Training at Climent Club in Alicante, the undefeated mixed martial artist successfully defended his title at “UFC 308“.

Born in Halle Westfalen, Germany to Georgian parents, Topuria is a citizen of both Georgia and Spain. On February 17, 2024, he became the new UFC Featherweight Champion by dethroning then champion Alexander Volkanovski at “UFC 298” in Anaheim, California, United States.

UFC 308

With 13 matches, “UFC 308” was held at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on October 26, 2024. In the main event, Max “Blessed” Holloway, 32, of Waianae, Hawaii, USA challenged Topuria.

It was Topuria’s first title defense as the UFC Featherweight Champion. Holloway held the title from July 3, 2017 to December 14, 2019.

Marc Goddard served as the referee of the “UFC 308” main event. He stopped the title bout after 1 minute and 34 seconds in the third round.

Topuria knocked out Holloway via punches. It was the first time the Hawaiian MMA fighter was knocked out in a professional MMA bout.

The loss downgraded Holloway’s professional MMA record to 26 wins and 8 losses. Topuria now has 16 wins and 0 loss.

Before joining the UFC, Topuria competed in West Coast Warriors, Climent MMA, Mix Fight Events, Cage MMA Finland, Cage Warriors Fighting Championship and BRAVE Combat Federation. The first UFC opponents he defeated before Volkanovski and Holloway are Youssef Zalal, Damon Jackson, Ryan Hall, Jai Herbert, Bryce Mitchell and Josh Emmett.
