Two members of the Miss Universe 2024 selection committee have been revealed. They are Emilio Estefan Jr., 71, of Cuba and the United States and Eleonora “Lele” Pons Maronese, 28, of Venezuela and the U.S.
The coronation ceremony will be held at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico on November 16, 2024. A total of 130 women will compete for the title including Marianela Ancheta, 31, of Cuba, María Fernanda Beltrán, 24, of Mexico, Alma Cooper, 22, of the U.S. and Ileana Marquez, 28, of Venezuela.
This is the 73rd edition of the international beauty pageant currently co-owned by JKN Global Group and Legacy Holding Group USA. On November 18, 2023, Sheynnis Palacios, 24, of Nicaragua won the 72nd edition at the Gimnasio Nacional José Adolfo Pineda in San Salvador, El Salvador.
Emilio Estefan
Estefan was born in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba to Emilio Estefan Sr. and Carmen Maria Gomez. Emilio Sr. was born in Cuba to Syrian and Lebanese parents while Gomez’s parents were Spanish.
Emilio Jr. and Gloria Estefan have been married since September 2, 1978. They are residents of Florida, USA.
In November 2015, 44th U.S. president Barack Obama awarded Emilio Jr. and Gloria the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Emilio Jr. has won 19 Grammy Awards while his wife is an eight-time Grammy Award winner.
Miss Universe 2024 marks the fourth time Emilio Jr. is serving as a Miss Universe judge. He was in the selection committee of the beauty pageant in 1996, 2004 and 2014.
Lele Pons
Pons is of Spanish and Italian descent. She was born in Caracas, Venezuela to Luis Guillermo Pons Mendoza, an architect, and Anna Maronese Pivetta, a pediatrician.
In 2001, Lele and her family moved to Miami, Florida. In 2015, she graduated from Miami Country Day School in Miami.
Pons was one of the judges at Miss Universe 2017. Among her fellow judges were Wendy Fitzwilliam and Pia Wurtzbach, who won Miss Universe in 1998 and 2015, respectively.
Currently, Pons has more than 18 million YouTube subscribers. In 2023, she finished 14th in “The Masked Singer” Season 9 and finished eighth in “Dancing With the Stars” Season 32.
