Josef W. O’Brien, 25, of Bainbridge, Ohio, United States is a chemical engineer and a professional rugby player. While playing for both Rugby Football Club Los Angeles and Belmont Shore Rugby Football Club in California, USA, he represented Utah, USA in the inaugural edition of Mister USA.

After graduating from Saint Ignatius High School in Cleveland, O’Brien entered Ohio State University in Columbus, USA to pursue a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. He played rugby in both schools.

O’Brien is 6’2″ tall. He has visited several countries in Europe including France, Germany, Hungary, Slovenia and Switzerland.

Mister USA 2024

On August 31, 2024, O’Brien represented Utah at Mister USA 2024 and competed against 19 other candidates at the Crystal Ballroom of Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, California. It was the inaugural edition of the national beauty pageant that selects the Mister Universe, Mister World, Mister International and Mister Earth candidates of the U.S.

O’Brien was second runner-up to New York’s Cormac Murphy. Florida’s Daryn Fernandez was first runner-up while New Mexico’s Art Naiontek and South Carolina’s Alek Maximus were the respective third and fourth runners-up.

As Mister USA 2024, Murphy will represent the U.S. at Mister Universe 2024. Also crowned were Alexander as Mister World USA 2024, O’Brien as Mister International USA 2024 and Naiontek as Mister Earth USA 2024.

Mister International 2024

On December 14, 2024, O’Brien will represent the U.S. at Mister International 2024 and compete against more than 40 other candidates in Bangkok, Thailand including Lavigne Swann of France and Thibaud Renaud of Switzerland. It is the 16th edition of the international beauty pageant for men.

If O’Brien wins, he will be the first ever Mister International from the U.S. The highest placement of the country in the competition was in 2006 when Chaka Sedgwick was the fourth runner-up.

Based in Bangkok, Thailand, Mister International is one of the six grand slam international beauty pageants for men. The others are Mister World, Mister Supranational, Mister Global, Mister Grand International and Man of the World.
