National Football Association athlete Drake Maye, 22, was born in Huntersville, North Carolina, United States to Mark Maye and Aimee Maye, who are both alumni of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. From 1983 to 1988, Mark played football at the university.

After spending one year at William A. Hough High School in Cornelius, North Carolina, Drake transferred to Myers Park High School in Charlotte, North Carolina where he played basketball and football. In July 2019, he committed to play college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA.

North Carolina Tar Heels

Representing the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the North Carolina Tar Heels football team is a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Since 2019, Mack Brown, 73, has been the head coach of the team, a position he also held from 1988 to 1997.

In March 2020, Drake committed to play college football for the team. In 2021, he appeared in four games behind starter Sam Howell as a redshirt in his freshman season for the team.

In 2022, Drake was the ACC’s player of the year, offensive player of the year, rookie of the year and offensive rookie of the year, the Football Writers Association of America’s freshman of the year and the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year. In 2023, he was a member of the All-ACC Academic Team and a Manning Award finalist.

New England Patriots

On April 25, 2024, the New England Patriots selected Drake as the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft at Campus Martius Park and Hart Plaza in Detroit, Michigan, USA. On April 26, 2024, he revealed that he will wear the number 10 jersey with the team.

On May 28, 2024, Drake signed a four-year fully guaranteed contract with the New England Patriots worth $36.64 million. On May 29, 2024, he joined the team’s organized team activities (OTA) offseason workout in Foxborough, Massachusetts, USA.

On September 19, 2024, Drake made his NFL debut at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, USA. On October 13, 2024, he will make his first NFL start.
