Chidimma Adetshina’s stardom from Miss South Africa 2024 to Miss Universe Nigeria 2024

Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina, 23, of Taraba, Nigeria is a law student who competed in Miss South Africa and Miss Universe Nigeria in the same year. She is now vying for the Miss Universe 2024 crown.

Born in Soweto, Gauteng, South Africa to Michael Adetshina and Sara Moyo, Chidimma grew up in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa. Michael is Nigerian while Moyo is a South African woman of Mozambican descent.

On May 22, 2024, Miss South Africa announced the 30 semifinalists of its 66th edition, including Adetshina. Chidimma was selected as one of the 16 finalists featured in the show “Crown Chasers”.

In the sixth episode, Chidimma withdrew from the competition amid the controversy surrounding her citizenship. Her mother is accused of committing identity fraud to obtain South African citizenship in 2001.

On August 10, 2024, Mia le Roux, 28, of Oudshoorn, Western Cape was crowned Miss South Africa 2024 at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria, Tshwane, Gauteng. She is the first deaf person to win the title.

After quitting Miss South Africa 2024, Chidimma was invited to compete at Miss Universe Nigeria 2024. The coronation ceremony was held at the Eko Hotels and Suits on Victoria Island in Lagos, Nigeria on August 31, 2024.

Arinola Giwa, Dozie Mbonu, Elizabeth Kingswally and Wale Ojo served as judges. Representing Taraba, Chidimma won the title, besting 24 other candidates.

Runner-up to Chidimma was Paula Ezendu of Anambra, who was crowned Miss Supranational Nigeria 2024. She will represent Nigeria at Miss Supranational 2025 in Poland.

Roku, Telemundo, TV Azteca and USA Network will broadcast the Miss Universe 2024 coronation ceremony live from the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico on November 16, 2024. A total of 130 women are vying for the crown including le Roux representing South Africa and Chidimma representing Nigeria.
