Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien’s stardom from Miss Vietnam 2018 to Miss Grand International 2021

Nguyễn Thúc Thùy Tiên, 23, of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam won the ninth edition of Miss Grand International. She is the international beauty pageant’s first titleholder from Vietnam.

Born and raised in Ho Chi Minh City, Nguyen studied the French language at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Ho Chi Minh City. In 2022, she graduated from Hoa Sen University in Ho Chi Minh City with a bachelor’s degree in international hotel and restaurant management.

As the Miss Southern Region Vietnam 2017 first runner-up, Nguyen was qualified to compete at Miss Vietnam 2018. The coronation ceremony was held at the Phu Tho Indoor Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City on September 16, 2018.

Trần Tiểu Vy was crowned Miss Vietnam 2018 while Bùi Phương Nga and Nguyễn Thị Thúy An were the respective first and second runners-up. Thuc Thuy Tien and Nguyễn Thị Hồng Tuyết finished in the Top 5.

Representing Vietnam, Tran finished in the Top 30 at Miss World 2018, Bui finished in the Top 10 at Miss Grand International 2018 and Thi Thuy An was unplaced at Miss Intercontinental 2019. It was Thuc Thuy Tien who represented the country at Miss International 2018 and Miss Grand International 2021.

On November 9, 2018, Tetsuya Bessho hosted the Miss International 2018 coronation ceremony at the Tokyo Dome City Hall in Tokyo, Japan. Representing Vietnam, Thuc Thuy Tien competed against 76 other candidates including Hinano Sugimoto of Japan.

Mariem Velazco of Venezuela won the title. The respective first, second, third and fourth runners-up were Ahtisa Manalo of the Philippines, Reabetswe Sechoaro of South Africa, Bianca Tirsin of Romania and Anabella Castro of Colombia.

Sugimoto finished in the Top 8. Thuc Thuy Tien was unplaced.

On December 4, 2021, Matthew Deane hosted the Miss Grand International 2021 coronation ceremony at the Show DC Hall in Bangkok, Thailand. Representing Vietnam, Thuc Thuy Tien competed against 58 other candidates including Indy Johnson of Thailand.

Johnson was unplaced but she won the Best in Evening award. Vivianie Diaz-Arroyo of Puerto Rico won the Best in Swimsuit award and became third runner-up to Thuc Thuy Tien, who won the title.

Runner-up to Thuc Thuy Tien was Andrea Aguilera of Ecuador. Lorena Rodrigues of Brazil was second runner-up and Jeane van Dam of South Africa was fourth runner-up.
