Zozibini Tunzi’s stardom from Miss South Africa 2017 to Miss Universe 2019

Zozibini Tunzi was born in Tsolo, Eastern Cape, South Africa. She studied public relations management at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa.

Tunzi represented South Africa in Miss Universe. She turned 26 on September 18, 2019.

Tunzi and Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters were among the 26 official Miss South Africa 2017 candidates. It was the 59th edition of the national beauty pageant that selects South Africa’s Miss Universe and Miss World candidates.

On March 16, 2017, Nel-Peters was crowned Miss South Africa 2017 at the Sun City Superbowl in Rustenburg, North West, South Africa. Tunzi did not make it to the Top 12.

Runner-up to Nel-Peters was Adè van Heerden, who later finished in the Top 10 at Miss World 2017. After Nel-Peters won Miss Universe 2017, van Heerden was appointed the new Miss South Africa 2017.

On August 9, 2019, Tunzi competed against 15 other Miss South Africa 2019 candidates at the Sun Arena at Time Square in Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa. She won the title.

Runner-up to Tunzi was Sasha-Lee Olivier, who later finished in the Top 40 at Miss World 2019. After Tunzi won Miss Universe 2019, Olivier became the new Miss South Africa 2019.

The Miss Universe 2019 coronation ceremony was held at the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, United States on December 8, 2019. It was hosted by Steve Harvey, Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo and Miss Teen USA 1998 Vanessa Lachey.

Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray crowned Tunzi. It made the latter the third Miss Universe from South Africa.

Runner-up to Tunzi was Madison Anderson of Puerto Rico while Sofia Aragon of Mexico was the second runner-up. Gabriela Tafur of Colombia and Paweensuda Drouin of Thailand finished in the Top 5.
