USA vs Japan: Demetrious Johnson, Tatsumitsu Wada fight at ‘ONE: Dawn of Heroes’ in the Philippines

The United States and Japan were represented at “ONE: Dawn of Heroes” on August 2, 2019. It was the third ONE Championship event in 2019 that took place in the Philippines.

Featuring 12 mixed martial arts matches and two Muay Thai matches, “ONE: Dawn of Heroes” took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. In the 11th bout of the evening, Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson, 33, of the United States faced Tatsumitsu “The Sweeper” Wada, 30, of Japan.

Including the U.S. and Japan, 12 countries were represented at “ONE: Dawn of Heroes.” The other countries were Australia, Brazil, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, the United Kingdom and Vietnam.

Johnson was one of the three fighters who represented the U.S.  Wada was one of the six fighters who represented Japan.

 

Blue Corner

Originally from Yamanashi, Japan, Wada moved to Tokyo, Japan to pursue a career in martial arts. He has been competing professionally since 2008 and he is a former DEEP Flyweight Champion.

“ONE: Dawn of Heroes” marked Wada’s fifth ONE Championship bout. He was coming out of a unanimous decision victory over Gustavo “El Gladiador” Balart, 32, of Cuba.

Red Corner

Johnson is training out of AMC Pankration in Kirkland, Washington, USA and Evolve MMA in Singapore. He has been competing professionally since 2007.

“ONE: Dawn of Heroes” marked Johnson’s second ONE Championship bout. In his promotional debut, he knocked out Yuya “Little Piranha” Wakamatsu, 24, of Japan.

Results

Johnson and Wada competed in a ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix semi-final bout. Kemp Cheng served as the referee.

After three five-minute rounds, the flyweight bout was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, Cheng raised hand of Johnson, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

Winning at “ONE: Dawn of Heroes” improved the professional MMA record of Johnson to 29 wins, 3 losses and 1 draw while Wada now has 21 wins, 11 losses, 2 draws and 1 No Contest. Check the complete “ONE: Dawn of Heroes” results on Conan Daily.
