Brave Combat Federation flyweight contender Jose “Shorty” Torres, 26, of the United States is one of the mixed martial artists who recently congratulated His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa on his new role in the Olympics. The Bahraini prince was appointed as the president of the Bahrain Olympic Committee.
“I’m at the airport heading to Amman, Jordan for ‘Brave 23’ but I wanted to give a huge shoutout to Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa for now being elected the president of the Bahrain Olympic Committee,” Torres stated. “That’s amazing. I’ve seen what you’ve been able to do with Brave, KHK MMA, KHK Heroes and so many other things…”
“You’re more than deserving for this job,” Torres said to Al Khalifa. “You’re trying to showcase the sport of MMA and highlighting all sports in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and show that the Kingdom is a force to be reckoned with in the athletic field. See you soon!”
For the last three years, Al Khalifa has committed to the development of the sport also at amateur level by helping to bring the world championships to Bahrain and increasing its popularity. He built the KHK MMA team and founded Brave Combat Federation, a mixed martial arts promotion based in Bahrain and Torres has been one of the biggest enthusiasts of the prince’s work in MMA.
Early in Torres’s professional career, he represented KHK MMA and captured titles in other promotions before officially joining Brave CF in 2018. Before rising in the professional ranks, he was first spotted at the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation world amateur championships where he won two gold medals.
On April 19, 2019, Torres will make his Brave CF debut at “Brave 23: Pride and Honor” at the Martyr Rashid Al-Ziyoud Hall Boxing Arena in Amman, Jordan. He will compete in the flyweight division against undefeated fighter Amir “The Prince” Albazi, 25, of Sweden, who is also a promotional debutante.
