H’Hen Nie kisses Sara Rose Summers after Miss Universe 2018 racism controversy

Many beauty pageant fans are still disappointed with Miss USA 2018 Sarah Rose Summers, 24, over some racist remarks she recently made. But one of the victims of the derogatory comments, H’Hen Nie, 26, of Vietnam, is apparently in good terms with the American beauty queen.

The controversy started after a copy of a now-expired live Instagram video featuring Summers, Francesca Hung, 24, of Australia and Valeria Morales, 20, of Colombia surfaced online. In the video, the three ladies discussed the English fluency, or the lack thereof, of Nie and Nat Rern, 22, of Cambodia.

“(Nie) pretends to know so much English and you ask her a question after having a whole conversation with her she goes-,” Summers said before nodding and laughing. “Could you imagine? Like Francesca said, that would be so isolating and I said yes, and I mean, just so confusing all the time.”

Netizens who were offended were quick to criticize Summers and call the Nebraska native a racist. The reigning Miss USA 2018 responded to the criticisms through a public apology in her Instagram account.

With a heart icon, Hung also posted a photo of herself with Rern, Summers, Nie and Morales. In the photo, the Miss Universe 2018 candidate from Vietnam kisses her fellow candidate from the U.S.
