Filipino mixed martial arts superfighter Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 34, spent one month in the United States for a world-class training. After the training, ONE Championship confirmed that he is competing for the ONE Lightweight World Championship title, which he once held.

“I just can’t be complacent,” Folayang stated. “As one of the top guys in my division and also a former champion, there will always be a target on my back.”

Hailing from Baguio City, Philippines, Folayang accepted an invitation from a close friend to train in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In August 2018, he flew out to the U.S. for a month-long training at the famous Jackson-Wink MMA training facility, which is a home to Jon Jones, Alistair Overeem, Andrei Arlovski, Donald Cerrone, Diego Sanchez and other successful MMA fighters.

Folayang also spent some of his time on the mats with the camp’s notable names, including Carlos Condit, Holly Holm, John Dodson and Michelle Waterson. The Team Lakay fighter said, “I didn’t think twice when it was offered to me to train there.”

From striking to grappling, Jackson-Wink MMA got it covered for Folayang, who had the rare opportunity to learn invaluable tricks of the trade from headmasters Greg Jackson and Mike Winkeljohn. Brandon “Six Gun” Gibson supervised the Team Lakay fighter’s striking drills at Jackson-Wink MMA.

Also, Folayang trained at Jackson-Wink MMA’s branch in Acoma with Nick Urso, a competitor in the sport since 2011. The latter handled the ONE Championship athlete’s grappling program during his one-month stay in the state known as the Land of Enchantment.

On November 23, 2018, Folayang and Amir Khan, 23, of Singapore will compete for the ONE Lightweight World Championship at “ONE: Conquest of Champions” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. The title was recently vacated.
