Hailing from Marikina City, Metro Manila, Philippines, Rome “The Rebel” Trinidad, 21, is one of the Filipino mixed martial arts on the card of “ONE: Grit and Glory”, which will be held on May 12, 2018. This will be her second ONE Championship bout following her unsuccessful promotional debut.
“I want to win so bad,” Trinidad stated. “I have dreams and aspirations as a competitor. In order to turn those into a reality, I have to win first. This is the first step.”
At “ONE: Grit and Glory,” Trinidad will face Priscilla Hertati Lumban Gaol, 29, of Indonesia. They will compete in the atomweight division.
Gaol has won two-straight matches to kick off her 2018. She first defeated Audreylaura Boniface of Malaysia via first-round stoppage before submitting Filipina newcomer Krisna Limbaga a month later. Trinidad will be Gaol’s third opponent from the Philippines following Gina Iniong and Limbaga.
With the help of her coach, former ONE Championship fighter Andrew Benibe, Trinidad seeks to make an astonishing statement in her second ONE Championship outing as she battles Gaol at “ONE: Grit and Glory,” which will take place at the Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta, Indonesia. With the desire to reinsert her name into the winner’s column, she is confident that her support system has geared her up splendidly for her three-round clash with Gaol.
“I have the best coach in my corner,” Trinidad said of Benibe. “I trained with the most talented athletes in the sport for this bout. With that said, I’m oozing with confidence coming into this match because I have my team behind me.”
Benibe has been a staple of the Philippine MMA circuit since 2006. He is a former bantamweight champion in the Philippines and he currently works as an MMA trainer at Maic’s Gym in Marikina City.
