ONE Championship fighter Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon, 30, of Ifugao, Philippines expects that his “ONE: Heroes of Honor” opponent Andrew Leone, 28, Cortland, New York, United States to fully utilize his upper hand in the grappling department. Representing Team Lakay of Baguio City, Philippines, the Filipino mixed martial artist made it a priority to concentrate on improving his wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu.
“After working on my wrestling and grappling over the past couple of years, I have really improved,” Belingon said. “Because of this improved grappling, my striking can be showcased even more.”
On January 23, 2016, Belingon was submitted via kimura at “ONE: Dynasty of Champions” in Changsha, China by ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes of Brazil. On August 5, 2017, the Brazilian champ submitted Leone via rear-naked choke at “ONE: Kings and Conquerors” in Macao, China.
On April 20, 2018, Belingon and Leone will headline “ONE: Heroes of Honor” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. Both are aiming to win another title shot.
“I know I will meet Bibiano again in that cage,” Belingon declared. After watching Leone’s encounter with Fernandes, Belingon is confident that he possesses the power to finish his American opponent.
While competing for the ONE Bantamweight World Championship title remains as Belingon’s top priority, his current focus is still fixed on his cage clash with Leone at “ONE: Heroes of Honor”. His main objective is to keep his status as the number 1 bantamweight contender in the organization.
The stakes are incredibly high for Belingon, unveiling that he is preparing himself to be in the best shape of his life. He knows that each win from here on out is another step closer to the ONE Bantamweight World Championship belt.
